Vitamin K2
Naturally derived, long-acting.
ProThera's Vitamin K2 contains menaquinone-7 (MK-7), a natural form of vitamin K. Vitamin K2 has a longer serum half-life than K1 indicating a higher degree of bioactivity. Naturally produced in the intestines by microbial organisms, vitamin K2 synthesis may be damaged after bariatric surgery. Vitamin K is essential for proper blood clotting, bone mineralization, and cardiovascular health. In skeletal tissue, vitamin K activates the protein osteocalcin which is essential for attracting calcium into bones. Research indicates vitamin K2 may be more effective at activating tissue proteins than K1, which is completely taken up by the liver. Deficiencies of fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamin K are not uncommon in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Vitamin K deficiencies are typically noted a year or more following surgery and should be monitored regularly. Vitamin K2 is recommended for persons who may be at higher risk of vitamin K deficiency due to insufficient intake or impaired absorption or intestinal synthesis following surgery.

Suggested Use: 1 capsule daily with food.
