Biotin
Biotin is an important B vitamin and cofactor for four carboxylase enzymes that participate in the endogenous production of glucose, synthesis of fatty acids, and catabolism of amino acids. Deficiencies of biotin have been linked with blood glucose dysregulation, hair loss, brittle nails, and neurological dysfunction. High-dose biotin supplementation has been found to favorably modulate glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity as well as cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Biotin deficiencies are not common in the general population but may be seen in persons with impaired gastrointestinal absorption due to disease or surgery. ProThera's high-potency Biotin provides 5,000 micrograms of this essential nutrient per capsule and is recommended for persons who may be at increased risk for biotin deficiency.
